New Orleans Saints receiver Brandin Cooks, who leads all rookies in receptions, was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday because of a broken thumb.

Cooks’ agent had said after Monday’s surgery that Cooks would be sidelined 4-6 weeks, but apparently the Saints do not plan to use him again this season.

Cooks has 53 catches for 550 yards and three touchdowns this year.

The Saints also placed safety Rafael Bush on injured reserve after he suffered a broken leg in Sunday’s 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
