The Houston Texans signed unrestricted free agent running back Andre Brown to a one-year contract, the team announced.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported the deal was for the minimum of $645,000.

Brown (6-foot-0, 227 pounds) has started 10 of 22 games in his five seasons in the NFL with 18 of those coming the past two seasons with the New York Giants. For his career, Brown has rushed for 876 yards on 214 carries with 11 touchdowns while also catching 32 passes for 189 yards. Brown has three 100-yard rushing games in his career, including two in 2013.

The Greenville, N.C., native was selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2009 draft out of North Carolina State, but suffered an Achilles injury during training camp that placed him on injured reserve for the 2009 season. Brown saw action in four games in 2010 with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts before rejoining the Giants in 2012.

Brown had his first significant amount of carries in 2012, rushing for 385 yards on 73 attempts with a career-high eight touchdowns in only 10 games. Despite missing the first eight games of 2013 due to a leg injury he suffered in the preseason, Brown started eight games and had career-bests with 139 rushing attempts and 492 yards rushing.
