Former Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning retired Tuesday after nine seasons in the NFL.
Manning, who turns 33 in August, spent the last four seasons of his career with the Texans, starting 40 of the 51 games he played from 2011 to 2014.
Manning came to the Texans from the Chicago Bears, where he started his career as the No. 42 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was released by Houston in a salary-cap move during the offseason in 2014 but returned after being cut by the Cincinnati Bengals last August.
Between the Bears and Texans, Manning made 96 career starts but played in all 16 games in a season only twice. He suffered a broken leg in October 2013.
Manning finished his career with 437 tackles, 11 interceptions, nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
