The Rose Bowl stadium operations team unanimously voted to block any short-term rental by NFL teams looking to relocate to Los Angeles in 2016.
Los Angeles Coliseum, Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium of Anaheim are considered viable options for teams who could play in Los Angeles next season if their own market fails to produce a viable stadium option.
The candidates include the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. All three franchises are seeking stadium solutions in their current home market.
However, with signs pointing to at least one team moving for next season, NFL owners called a special meeting next month in Chicago to discuss the short-term future of the teams and Los Angeles as a viable home.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s proposed stadium in Inglewood, Calif., could be completed by 2018. No other project is expected to be done before that, meaning the 2016 and 2017 seasons would be played by a potential relocated franchise in another venue, such as Dodger Stadium or the Coliseum.
The Rose Bowl board voted 11-0 not to be the temporary solution for any relocation challenges facing the Rams, Chargers or Raiders.
