Carolina Panthers first-round draft pick Kelvin Benjamin had an MRI on his sore left knee Monday.

Benjamin, a wide receiver, bumped his knee on a teammate during practice on Sunday afternoon.

Team officials said Benjamin’s injury does not appear to be serious, but he missed Monday morning’s practice.

Benjamin, 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, is in contention for the team’s No. 1 wide receiver spot. The team cut Steve Smith, the franchise’s all-time leading receiver, earlier this year.

Benjamin had 54 catches for 1,011 yards with 15 touchdowns last season in helping Florida State win the BCS national championship.

Fantasy Update: Benjamin is a rookie to watch this season as he is in line to be one of Cam Newton’s top receiving targets. We recommend grabbing him in the latter rounds of drafts, but monitor his injury status with a keen eye.
