Baltimore Ravens running back Bernard Pierce said his surgically repaired rotator cuff is improving and he expects to be ready for training camp in July, according to the Baltimore Sun.

“Definitely by training camp,” Pierce told the newspaper Saturday night at a charity basketball game with teammates. “I think I’m right on schedule, honestly. I’m getting better, man. I’m doing rehab every day. I’m just grinding it out.”

Pierce, who had right shoulder surgery in January, averaged just 2.9 yards per carry last season following an impressive rookie year in which he averaged 4.9 yards per rush.

The 2014 season for the Ravens’ star running back, Ray Rice, is unknown. Rice was indicted on Thursday by a grand jury on a third-degree aggravated assault charge for allegedly striking his fiancee unconscious last month at an Atlantic City casino.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he would let the legal process play out before making a decision on a possible suspension.

Rice, 27, is coming off his worst season, rushing for only 660 yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry.
