The Baltimore Ravens have exercised their option on cornerback Jimmy Smith, according to media reports.
Smith, who was taken with the 27th pick in the first round in the 2011 draft and been a productive starter the last two seasons, will earn $6.898 million, which is guaranteed only in case of an injury.
“We are hopeful that we can sign Jimmy long-term,” coach John Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meetings. “That will be our goal.”
Smith made 59 tackles and 16 pass deflections in addition to forcing three fumbles in 2013.
