Domestic violence charges against former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will be dismissed and expunged from his record by a New Jersey judge following the completion of a pre-trial diversion program.

Rice has not played in the NFL since video of the incident, in which he knocked unconscious his then-fiancee in a New Jersey casino elevator, became public. He was initially suspended two games, then banned indefinitely and released by the Ravens after the league viewed the video.

Rice is a free agent but at age 28 and given his recent track record on and off the field, plus the devaluation of the running back position in the NFL, another gig in the league is no guarantee.

Rice was charged in February 2014 with third-degree aggravated assault.

In 15 games during the 2013 season, he gained just 660 rushing yards following three consecutive seasons with 1,100-plus rushing yards.
