Cornerback/kick returner Javier Arenas signed a free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced Tuesday.

The Falcons did not disclose terms of the deal, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Arenas received a one-year contract.

Arenas, 26, spent his first three NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals last May. He played all 16 games for Arizona in 2013, recording 12 tackles.

After the Chiefs made him a second-round draft pick in 2010 out of Alabama, Arenas played in 47 of 48 possible games for Kansas City, making 12 starts. He recorded a career-high 60 tackles in 2012, and he matched his career-best that year with eight passes defensed.

His only two interceptions came in 2011.

Last season, Arenas returned 23 kickoffs for 493 yards, just shy of his career-high total of 509 kickoff-return yards (on 24 attempts) in 2010.

During his time in Kansas City, Arenas totaled 105 punt returns for 1,035 yards. In 2011, he averaged 12.8 yards per punt return.
