The Los Angeles Lakers finalized a deal Friday on a five-acre property in El Segundo, Calif., that the team will use to construct a new corporate headquarters with a practice facility and a 750-seat exhibition court.

The exhibition court also will be the home for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.

“With its proximity to the airport and beaches, clean air, diverse businesses and wonderful community, El Segundo is the perfect place for us to be,” Lakers president and co-owner Jeanie Buss said in a statement. “We’ve been here for the past 15 years with great success, and we’re thrilled to secure the perfect spot to expand on that success and remain for many years as a part of this vibrant and growing area.”

The two-story, 122,000-square-foot facility is targeted for completion in spring 2017.

The new building will be one block north of the Lakers’ current headquarters at the Toyota Sports Center that they share with the Los Angeles Kings.
