Former head coaches Mike Woodson and Lawrence Frank have joined Doc Rivers as assistant coaches.

Rivers also added NBA veteran Sam Cassell to round out his staff. Cassell won three championship rings — two with Boston and one with Houston — during his 15-year career.

“We have an impressive and experienced group of coaches who are excited to get to work,” Rivers said. “Mike and Lawrence have enjoyed tremendous success as head coaches and Sam is someone who I coached as a player and respected as an assistant with the Wizards. I am excited to continue to work with the entire staff as we prepare for the season.”

Woodson coached the Atlanta Hawks from 2004 to 2010 and guided them to the postseason in his final three years. He most recently coached the New York Knicks before being fired on April 21.

Frank has coached the New Jersey (now Brooklyn) Nets and the Detroit Pistons.
His second stint with the Nets came to an end last week when the team and Frank reached an agreement on a buyout.

Frank, who was hired last summer to be Jason Kidd’s No. 1 assistant, had signed a reported six-year deal worth around $6 million. His relationship with Kidd quickly deteriorated and he was demoted to compiling reports.
