Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin received a one-game suspension without pay for receiving his 16th technical foul of the 2013-14 season, the league announced Wednesday.
Under NBA rules, a player or coach is automatically suspended without pay for one game once he receives his 16th technical foul during a regular season. For every two additional technical fouls received during that regular season, the player or coach will be automatically suspended for an additional game.
Griffin received his most recent technical foul with 3:23 remaining in the second quarter of the Clippers’ 117-105 win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night at Staples Center. Griffin will serve his suspension in the Clippers’ season finale on Wednesday when Los Angeles visits the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center.
“It doesn’t matter anyway,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said after the game. “Worst case he’s suspended for one game, but we’re not going to bring him (today) anyways.”
