The Golden State Warriors promoted Luke Walton to lead assistant, the team announced Wednesday.

Walton replaced Alvin Gentry, who left Golden State during the offseason to become the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Walton served as an assistant on coach Steve Kerr’s staff last season when the Warriors won their first NBA championship in 40 years. He previously worked for the Los Angeles D-Fenders as a player development coach in the NBA Development League in 2013-14 and coached the Warriors’ summer league team this year.

As a player, Walton won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers during a 10-year career. He is the son of former NBA center Bill Walton.

The Warriors also announced that Jarron Collins moved up to an assistant from player development coach. Assistant Ron Adams will remain on the bench and Theo Robertson becomes the video coordinator/player development coach.
