The Detroit Pistons retained a key player Sunday, as multiple media reports indicated that point guard Reggie Jackson agreed to a five-year, $80 million contract.
The highest-valued contract in franchise history reportedly does not include any option years.
The Pistons acquired Jackson from the Oklahoma City Thunder at the February trade deadline in a three-team deal that also included the Utah Jazz.
After starting just 13 of 50 games for Oklahoma City during the recently concluded season, Jackson started all 27 games he played for Detroit. His per-game averages rose in all major statistical categories following the deal: from 12.8 points to 17.6, from 4.3 assists to 9.2 and from four rebounds to 4.7.
The Thunder’s first-round pick in 2011 out of Boston College, Jackson played 3 1/2 seasons in Oklahoma City before moving to Detroit.
In 272 career games (76 starts), he has averages of 9.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds.
The Pistons’ next summer priority is re-signing restricted free agent center Andre Drummond.
As with all NBA moves agreed upon this week, Jackson’s deal can’t be officially finalized until Thursday.
