Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and might end up requiring microfracture surgery.

According to ESPNDallas.com, if the cartilage damage cannot be repaired via arthroscopic surgery, microfracture surgery would be the next step. That would sideline Parsons for four to six months.

Parsons received a third medical opinion on his knee Monday, from Chicago Bulls Dr. Brian Cole, according to ESPNDallas.com. Parsons previously underwent evaluations by Mavericks Dr. T.O. Souryal and Houston Rockets Dr. Walter Lowe.

Parsons, a second-round pick of the Rockets in 2011, signed a three-year, $46 million contract with Dallas last summer and averaged 15.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in his first season with the Mavericks.

The Mavericks trail the Rockets 3-1 in their best-of-seven series, with Game 5 set for Tuesday in Houston.
