Houston Rockets forward Dwight Howard, expected to be out at least four more weeks with swelling in his right knee, received a bone-marrow injection in the knee Wednesday.
Howard has not played since Jan. 23 as he has dealt with fluid buildup in the knee. The injection Wednesday was to regenerate growth of cartilage and was done because he was expected to miss the next month anyway, the Houston Chronicle reported.
He missed 11 games after undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy on the knee in November.
The Rockets said Howard will begin rehabilitation immediately and be re-evaluated in four weeks.
In 32 games this season, Howard has averaged 16.3 points and 11 rebounds.
