The Cleveland Cavaliers traded guard/forward Mike Miller and center Brendan Haywood to the Portland Trail Blazers, according to multiple reports.
The deal is aimed to create future options and save luxury-tax money, sources told ESPN.com.
The Cavaliers will not receive any picks or players in the trade and dealing away the two players means Cleveland will receive $10.5 million and $2.85 million trade exceptions, Yahoo Sports reported.
The Cavs also will send two second-round picks to Portland and the Blazers will receive the better of Cleveland’s two 2019 second-round picks and the team’s 2020 second-rounder, according to reports.
The Blazers likely will waive Haywood, who has a $10.5 million non-guaranteed deal for the 2015-16 season. Portland eventually could work a buyout with Miller.
Miller, 35, was a key signing last offseason because of his experience and relationship with LeBron James, but he averaged just 2.1 points in 13.5 minutes per game in 2014-15. Miller is set to enter his 16th NBA season.
Haywood, 35, played just 22 regular-season games, averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.4 minutes per game last season, his first with the Cavs.
