Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was held out of Team USA’s exhibition game Wednesday night against the Dominican Republic at Madison Square Garden in New York as a late scratch.
Rose, who is returning from knee surgery suffered in November, was scheduled to play after sitting out practices on Monday and Tuesday to rest his knees. There was no indication that his absence was injury related.
According to ESPN.com, U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski opted not to play Rose in order to get an extended look at other players vying to make the team. The U.S. roster must be cut from 16 players to 12 before the FIBA World Cup in Spain begins next week.
