The Washington Nationals signed third baseman Ian Stewart to a minor-league contract on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Stewart played in only 24 games for the Angels last season and batted .176 with two home runs and seven RBIs but spent most of the season in Triple-A.
The former Colorado Rockies infielder has struggled with injuries the past few years and likely will compete for a bench role with the Nationals next season.
Stewart’s best seasons came with the Rockies. In 2009, he belted 25 home runs and had 70 RBIs.
