The Seattle Mariners claimed utility player Carlos Rivero off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Rivero, 26, made his major league debut last season, playing four games with the Red Sox.

Rivero has hit .262 in nine seasons in the minors with the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals and Red Sox organizations.

He has largely played the middle infield, but he also can play the corners and left field.
