SAN FRANCISCO — When the Giants board their plane headed to Miami on Monday, they will do so with pitchers Matt Cain and Jake Peavy, both of whom are expected to be reinstated from the disabled list this week.

The awkward part is two other guys are scheduled to fly 3,000 miles on Monday, only to find out Tuesday that they won’t be on the active roster for the six-game trip.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy disclosed after Sunday’s game that the organization wanted to wait as long as possible before doing the transactions. He even mentioned the possibility of food poisoning as a reason not to make a roster move before all his ducks are in a row for the opener of the Miami series on Tuesday.

Bochy has indicated veteran pitchers Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum likely will be the ones who get the bad news on the trip. They are prepared.

It’s possible both will go on the DL, Hudson with general soreness and Lincecum after getting hit in the right forearm with a line drive on Saturday.

Cain (strained flexor tendon in right arm) has tentatively been scheduled to start Thursday in the series finale in Miami. Peavy (strained back) likely will pitch Friday or Saturday at Washington.
