San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy was admitted to a Scottsdale, Ariz., hospital in order to receive two stents, according to a statement from the team Thursday night.

Giants pitchers and catchers reported to spring training in Scottsdale earlier Thursday.

“Following his physical yesterday, the Giants medical staff was monitoring Bruce Bochy’s heart after he experienced some discomfort,” the statement read. “This afternoon, Bruce was admitted to Scottsdale Healthcare Medical Center where doctors performed a medical procedure to insert two stents. He is resting comfortably and will be released tomorrow.”

Bochy, 59, is not expected to be present at Giants camp on Friday. He owns a 667-629 record and three World Series championships in eight seasons as the Giants’ manager. He previously was the San Diego Padres’ manager from 1995-2006, compiling a 951-975 record and leading the team to the 1998 World Series.

In a nine-year major league playing career, Bochy was a catcher for the Houston Astros, New York Mets and San Diego. He hit .239 with a .298 on-base percentage, a .388 slugging percentage, 26 homers and 93 RBIs in 358 games.
