The San Francisco Giants acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Miami Marlins for two minor league pitchers, the Giants announced Friday night.

McGehee provides San Francisco with a replacement for Pablo Sandoval, who signed with the Boston Red Sox last month.

Miami receives right-handers Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo.

The Marlins made McGehee available after getting Martin Prado from the New York Yankees earlier in the day.

McGahee, 32, was awarded the National League comeback player of the year in 2014 after batting .287 with 29 doubles, four home runs and 76 RBIs. He spent 2013 in Japan with the Rakuten Golden Eagles.

The Giants placed their priority on re-signing Sandoval. However, after Sandoval signed a five-year, $100 million deal with Boston, the Giants began looking for his replacement.

McGehee is from nearby Santa Cruz and attended Fresno State. The Giants’ Triple-A affiliate was in Fresno for several years. It moves to Sacramento starting next season.

McGehee had 23 home runs and 104 RBIs in 2010 with the Milwaukee Brewers, but struggled until this year. Before being traded to the Giants, McGahee signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Marlins and is arbitration-eligible.
