The New York Yankees officially signed infielder Stephen Drew to a one-year contract Friday.

Drew reportedly reached a deal with the Yankees earlier this month with a base salary of $5 million.

Drew, 31, combined to hit .162, seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 85 games with the Yankees and Boston Red Sox in 2014.

Drew missed the first two months last season after holding out. On May 21, he signed a one-year contract with the Red Sox, appearing in 39 games for Boston before being acquired by the Yankees along with cash considerations in exchange for infielder Kelly Johnson on July 31.

In 46 games with the Yankees, Drew hit .150, three home runs and 15 RBIs, and appeared in 34 games at second base, his first career experience at the position.

In 1,021 career games over parts of nine major league seasons with Arizona (2006-12), Oakland (2012), Boston (2013-14) and the Yankees (2014), Drew has hit .256, 97 home runs and 442 RBIs.

Drew was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of the 2004 draft.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Eury Perez was designated for assignment.
