Marlins interested in Ichiro

Ichiro Suzuki does not plan to retire, and could get a minor-league deal from the Miami Marlins or Baltimore Orioles.

Suzuki is 156 shy of 3,000 for his career.

Both teams are monitoring the status of the former Mariners and Yankees outfielder. Miami has a young, talented outfield but could view Suzuki as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner when he isn’t in the lineup. Suzuki turned 41 in October. He hit .284 with 15 steals in 142 games with the Yankees in 2014.

Miami is also reportedly interested in other outfielders who could come off the bench, including Nate Schierholtz.

The Orioles lost Nick Markakis to the Atlanta Braves and Nelson Cruz to the Seattle Mariners in free agency.
