Los Angeles Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu will have shoulder surgery on Thursday and will not pitch this season, the team said Wednesday.
The left-hander developed a sore pitching shoulder in late March during spring training and has been unable to fill the starting spot the Dodgers had planned for him.
The 28-year-old Ryu has posted a 28-15 record in two seasons with the Dodgers. In 56 starts, he has logged a 3.17 ERA with 78 walks and 293 strikeouts.
Ryu also experienced soreness in the shoulder last year but still made 26 starts and went 14-7 with a 3.38 ERA in 152 innings.
The Dodgers have filled Ryu’s spot in the rotation with Mike Bolsinger and Carlos Frias.
