Sixteen days after announcing they were going to sign Brett Anderson, the Los Angeles Dodgers made it official on Wednesday.

The left-handed Anderson will get $10 million with an additional $4 million in incentives. He is expected to join a starting rotation that includes Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Brandon McCarthy.

The signing of Anderson pretty much rules out the Dodgers going after free agents Max Scherzer or James Shields.

“I don’t think our intention ever was to sign one guy and punt on the fifth spot,” General Manager Farhan Zaidi told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. He said any additional starters imported would be “depth options,” which would rule out Scherzer or Shields.

To make room on the roster for the oft-injured Anderson, the Dodgers designated shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena for assignment. Arruebarrena, signed for $25 million in February.

The 26-year-old Anderson is 27-32 with a 3.73 ERA in 92 games with the Oakland A’s and Colorado Rockies.
