Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu reported discomfort in his throwing shoulder on Sunday and is headed back to Los Angeles for further evaluation.

Ryu had complained of tightness in his shoulder last week. He received an anti-inflammatory injection and manager Don Mattingly said Ryu felt better instantly. But when Ryu tried to throw on Sunday, he “felt a little something,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

Later in the day, Mattingly said Ryu will probably open the season on the disabled list.

“I think he’s feeling something. If he was feeling nothing, we wouldn’t be trying to get him in front of (doctor),” Mattingly said. “We know to move forward it’s going to be a heavier workload, so we’ve got to be sure where we’re at. I saw the look on Hyun-Jin’s face and it wasn’t typical Hyun-Jin.”

Ryu turns 28 years old this week. In the past two seasons, he is 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA.
