Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947, when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played with the Dodgers for 10 seasons and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1962.

The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to erect a statue in honor of legendary trail blazer Jackie Robinson.

The team announced the plan Wednesday on Jackie Robinson Day, saying the statue would be set on the grounds of Dodger Stadium.

“I’ve been waiting 20 years,” Robinson’s widow, Rachel Robinson, said Wednesday. “It’s the fulfillment of a dream.”

Dodgers President Stan Kasten said he didn’t know when the statue would be made or where it would be placed, but he said it likely would be the first of several statues honoring Dodgers greats.

The Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958.
