The Kansas City Royals reached agreement Tuesday with manager Ned Yost on a one-year contract extension through the 2016 season.

Yost guided the Royals last season to their first trip to the World Series since 1985, ending a 29-year playoff drought for the franchise. Kansas City lost in seven games to the San Francisco Giants in the Fall Classic.

The 60-year-old Yost became Royals manager in 2010 and has held the job longer than anyone in club history. With 373 victories, Yost is closing in on the team record for victories. He trails Whitey Herzog (410) and Dick Howser (404).

Yost’s five-year record with the Royals is 373-402. He also managed the Milwaukee Brewers and has a career mark of 830-904.
