The Detroit Tigers reach agreement with designated hitter Victor Martinez on a four-year contract worth around $70 million, according to an ESPN report Wednesday.

Martinez had earlier rejected the team’s one-year qualifying offer of $15.3 million for 2015.

The 35-year-old Martinez had one of the best years of his career in 2014, batting .335 with 32 home runs and 103 RBIs for the Tigers. He also had an American League-best .409 on-base percentage.

The 12-year veteran was in the final year of a four-year, $50 million contract that he signed in 2011. This past season, Martinez made $12 million.

Since the start of the 2011 season, Martinez has batted .321 with 58 homers and 298 RBIs for the Tigers. He missed the 2012 season because of a knee injury.

In his 12 major league seasons with the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and Tigers, Martinez has batted .306 with 189 home runs and 927 RBIs. In the postseason, he has added six homers and 22 RBIs while batting .315.
