The New York Yankees acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius from the Arizona Diamondbacks to become Derek Jeter’s successor in a three-team trade with the Detroit Tigers, according to multiple reports Friday.

The Yankees have been seeking a replacement for the retired Jeter and it appears that player will be the left-handed hitting Gregorius.

FOXSports.com reported that Arizona will receive left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray and a minor league infielder from the Tigers, while Detroit lands Yankees right-hander Shane Greene.

CBSSports.com confirmed the three sides have reached an agreement and the deal is only pending a physical.

Gregorius, 24, began last season in Triple-A and then hit .226 with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 80 games with the Diamondbacks in 2014.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Gregorius was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 2007 and was part of a three-team deal with Arizona, Cincinnati and Cleveland in 2012. He made his major league debut with the Reds in 2012. He has played in 183 games over the past two seasons with the D-backs, batting .241 with 13 homers, 55 RBIs and 82 runs.

Ray, 23, made nine appearances (six starts) for the Tigers in his first season in the majors. He was 1-4 with a 8.16 ERA in 28 2/3 innings.

Greene, 26, made 14 starts for the Yankees as a rookie last season. He was 5-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 78 2/3 innings.
