Texas Rangers veteran reliever Jason Frasor was traded to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor-league relief pitcher Spencer Patton.
Frasor, 36, had a 3.34 ERA in 38 games with the Rangers, including 30 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
Royals infielder Jimmy Paredes was designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for Frasor and right-hander Louis Coleman was optioned to Omaha.
Frasor joins a bullpen that is strong at the back with Greg Holland, second in the American League with 25 saves, and set-up man Wade Davis, but getting to the eight- and ninth-inning options can be an adventure for manager Ned Yost.
