Yovani Gallardo likely will pitch his final year before free agency as a Texas Ranger.
Fox Sports and ESPN reported Sunday that the Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of trading the right-hander to Texas. Details of the deal were not known.
Gallardo, 28, will make $13 million in the final year of his contract in 2015 after the Brewers picked up his option in November. The option was part of a five-year, $30 million contract he signed in 2010.
ESPN cited a source who said that the Fort Worth, Texas, high school product would be open to re-signing with the Rangers before becoming a free agent.
Last season, Gallardo posted an 8-11 record with a career-best 3.51 ERA in 192 1/3 innings and 32 starts. Over eight major league seasons, all with Milwaukee, Gallardo has an 89-64 record with a 3.69 ERA in 214 games (211 starts).
Gallardo was an All-Star in 2010, when he finished 14-7 with a 3.84 ERA. He earned a career-high 16 wins in 2012.
