Derek Jeter has left the building, and the New York Yankees replacement plan just might lead them to Elvis.

The Yankees are in the market for a shortstop and had dialogue this week at the general manager’s meetings with the Texas Rangers to discuss shortstop Elvis Andrus. Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is also in the mix for the Yankees if they utilize the trade market.

Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies continues to be floated as a trade target, but cost — in terms of contract payout and prospects — is a consideration, general manager Brian Cashman said Monday night.

“I think it’s a limited market to be honest, and I say limited in terms of availability and acquisition cost,” he said.

Andrus, 26, has an eight-year, $120 million contract extension that begins in 2015 and expires in 2022.

Given New York is paying several over-30 players such as Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, the Yankees are likely to shop for other options before making a move. Asdrubal Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez and Jed Lowrie are unrestricted free agents that might be better short-term fits.
