The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Travis Snider in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

In return for Snider the Pirates will get 21-year-old pitching prospect Stephen Tarpley and a player to be named later.

The Orioles need outfield help, because Nelson Cruz left for the Seattle Mariners and Nick Markakis departed to sign with the Atlanta Braves.

Snider, 26, hit .264 with 13 homers in 140 games last season for Pittsburgh. The Pirates were willing to let him go because prospect Gregory Polanco should be ready to take over in right field.
