The Miami Marlins continued their offseason makeover Friday, acquiring infielder Martin Prado in a five-player trade with the New York Yankees.

The Marlins also received right-hander David Phelps while sending the Yankees right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Domingo German and veteran infielder Garrett Jones.

The Marlins have reconstituted their infield, acquiring second baseman Dee Gordon from the Los Angeles Dodgers and signing Michael Morse to play first base. Prado is expected to play third base.

Prado, 31, hit .282 with 12 homers and 58 RBI for the Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks last season. The Yankees acquired him on July 31.

Prado, who played with the Atlanta Braves from 2006 to 2012 before moving to Arizona, is a career .291 hitter.

Phelps, 28, was 5-5 with a 4.38 ERA in 32 games (17 starts) with the Yankees last season. In 87 appearances (40 starts) over the past three seasons with the Yankees, he was 15-14 with a 4.21 ERA.

The Yankees are expected to plug Eovaldi into their rotation.

Eovaldi, 24, went 6-14 with a 4.37 ERA in 33 starts last season, when he set career highs in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts (142). The Marlins had acquired Eovaldi from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2012 deal that sent shortstop Hanley Ramirez to L.A.

Jones, a 33-year-old journeyman utility player, has hit at least 15 home runs in each of the last six years. Last season, he hit .246 with 15 homers, 53 RBI, 59 runs and 33 doubles for Miami.

The left-handed hitter, a career .253 hitter, also has played for Minnesota (2007) and Pittsburgh (2009-13).

German, 22, was 9-3 with a 2.48 ERA at Class A Greensboro last season.
