The Atlanta Braves traded outfielder Jason Heyward and pitcher Jordan Walden to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday in exchange for pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins.

Heyward, the Braves’ first-round draft pick in 2007, is a two-time Gold Glove winner with a .262 career batting average to go along with 84 home runs and 292 RBIs since his 2010 debut. He made the All-Star team in 2010. This past season, he hit .271 with 11 homers, 58 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

The 25-year-old Heyward, rated in the top three in National League outfield defense, is a free agent after 2015. He entered the major leagues as a 20-year-old rookie in the same season as Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The right-handed Walden, who has appeared in 50 or more games in three of the past four seasons, led the Braves with 20 holds in 2014. He was 0-2 with a 2.88 ERA and three saves. The 27-year-old also led the Los Angeles Angels in saves with 32 and was named an All-Star in 2011.

Miller, 24, was selected by the Cardinals in the first round (19th overall) of the 2009 draft. The right-hander has compiled a 26-18 record with a 3.33 ERA in 69 career major league outings (63 starts) and 370 innings pitched. Miller went 10-9 with a 3.74 this season in 2014.

Jenkins, 22, was selected by the Cardinals in the supplemental round (50th overall) of the 2010 draft. The right-hander went 6-5 with a 3.28 ERA in 13 starts for Class A Palm Beach in 2014. He pitched for Peoria in the recently completed Arizona Fall League and posted a 2.22 ERA with 28 strikeouts in six starts over 24 1/3 innings.
