Terry Francona and the Cleveland Indians agreed to a contract extension that includes team options for 2019 and 2020. The deal adds two years to Francona’s current deal. He was originally signed to a four-year deal entering the 2013 season when he was named American League Manager of the Year.

“His leadership and the leadership of his coaching staff set the tone for our players,” Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said at his season-ending press conference. “It doesn’t matter whether we had a crushing loss or we won by 10 runs. He shows up every single day with enthusiasm and is ready to go figure out a way to win that game.”

Francona won the World Series twice with the Boston Red Sox (2004, 2011).

In Francona’s first season in Cleveland, with the team coming off of a 94-loss season, the Indians won 92 games and hosted a wild-card game.
Cleveland won 85 games in 2014.
