The Boston Red Sox reached agreement on a one-year, $1.5 million contract with former All-Star pitcher Alexi Ogando on Friday.

The deal, pending a physical, includes another $1.5 million in potential incentives, FoxSports.com reported.

The 31-year-old Ogando has a career 3.55 ERA but has struggled with injury problems the past few years and bounced between starting and relief. Last season, he pitched in 27 games out of the bullpen for the Texas Rangers and posted a 2-3 record with one save and a 6.84 ERA.

In 2013, Ogando started 18 games and went 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA. His career record is 28-16 with four saves in five seasons and 183 games (48 starts) with the Rangers.

The right-hander is likely to work in a relief role for the Red Sox.
