The San Francisco Giants placed right-hander Matt Cain and first baseman Brandon Belt on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
Cain has been pitching with a sore elbow throughout the season. The move is retroactive to July 11.
Belt is on the seven-day concussion DL.
The club recalled infielder Adam Duvall and right-handed reliever George Kontos from Triple-A Fresno to take their spots on the 25-man roster.
Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit will start in place of Cain on Tuesday at the Philadelphia Phillies. Michael Morse is expected to start at first base in Belt’s absence.
Cain is 2-7 with a 4.18 ERA over 90 1/3 innings this season.
Belt is batting .242 with a .304 on-base percentage, 10 home runs and 23 RBIs in 46 games this year. He was previously on the DL for nearly two months earlier this season with a broken thumb.
