SAN DIEGO — It’s news that given the history of the situation, no one knows quite what conclusions to draw.

One day after starting to swing the bat after wrist surgery on June 18, outfielder-first baseman Wil Myers has been shut down.

The Padres said Sunday it was temporary. Maybe a 24-48-hour back off from Myers’ program.

But given what has happened this season, there is cause for concern.

And Myers will fly to Arizona on Monday to have his left wrist examined by the hand specialist who removed the bonespur from his left wrist in June.

Although Myers had surgery on his right wrist last year, the left wrist had been bothering him since early in the 2014 campaign and the bonespur became a big issue during the first week of May.

Myers first went on the disabled list with left wrist tendinitis on May 11 and missed 30 games. He returned on June 11, played three games and returned to the disabled list before having the surgery — which was projected to sideline him for six to eight weeks.

Myers experienced soreness in the wrist Saturday after swinging a short bat in the cage for the first time since the surgery. The Padres say his Monday trip to see the surgeon in Arizona is “precautionary” and that he will rejoin the team in New York on Wednesday or Thursday to continue his rehab.

“It’s important that Wil goes back to the doctor for an update,” said Padres manager Pat Murphy. “Wil is so important to the Padres offense. When he is in there, the Padres play better.”

In fact, with Myers in the lineup, the Padres are a winning team at 19-16. Without him … not so good.
