Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis was suspended 25 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for amphetamines on Friday.

The suspension includes the postseason. Should the Orioles play more than eight postseason games, Davis will again be eligible.

Davis, 28, ends the 2014 regular season hitting .196 with 26 homers and 72 RBIs. Last season, he hit .286 with 42 doubles, 53 homers and 138 RBIs.

The statement from the commissioner’s office:

“The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has received a 25-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an Amphetamine in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

“The suspension of Davis is effective immediately. The 25 games shall include all regular season games and Postseason games in which the player would have been eligible to play.”
