A day after putting running back Mike Davis in the “sort of doubtful” category for Saturday’s game against East Carolina, South Carolina Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said on Tuesday that he now expects Davis to be available.

Davis was limited to four carries due to a rib injury in the Gamecocks’ season-opening loss to Texas A&M.

“There”s a good chance he’s going to be available,” Spurrier said Tuesday, adding that Davis has responded to treatment.

Davis, 5-feet-9 and 216 pounds, is the No. 3-rated running back and No. 23 overall prospect eligible for the 2015 NFL Draft by NFLDraftScout.com, and Spurrier said over the summer that he expects the junior to leave school a year early.

Brandon Wilds led South Carolina with 45 yards on nine carries against the Aggies.
