Mississippi State took over the No. 1 spot in both the Associated Press and USA Today top 25 polls on Sunday.

The Bulldogs replaced Florida State to complete the fastest rise to the top spot in the 78-year history of the AP poll.

Mississippi State moved up from a tie for third in the AP poll and from No. 6 in the USA Today coaches poll after beating previous No. 2 Auburn 38-23 on Saturday. It only took the Bulldogs five weeks to climb all the way to No. 1.

The Bulldogs are just one point ahead of Florida State in the coaches poll.

In both polls, Florida State is second, followed by No. 3 Mississippi, No. 4 Baylor and No. 5 Notre Dame.

—Clemson starting quarterback Deshaun Watson will have surgery on Monday to repair his injured hand and is likely to be sidelined for five weeks, the Greenville (S.C.) News reported.

Cole Stoudt will become the Tigers’ starting quarterback in Watson’s absence.

—Florida wide receiver Latroy Pittman was released from the hospital after being carted off the field during Saturday night’s game against LSU. He was taken from the field on a stretcher after taking a hit during the game.
