Despite the turmoil that has surrounded the Florida program, the Gators remain one win shy of qualifying for a bowl appearance.

Their job became a little more difficult on Monday when lame-duck head coach Will Muschamp said two key contributors on defense will miss the remainder of the season.

Redshirt senior linebacker Neiron Ball needs microfracture surgery and sophomore linebacker Jarrad Davis has suffered a torn meniscus. Both were hurt in a 23-20 loss to South Carolina.

Davis was injured on the opening kickoff.

Ball is tied for the second-most tackles on the team. He missed the entire 2011 season because of a burst blood vessel in his brain.

Florida plays host to Eastern Kentucky this week, before traveling to play Florida State. If the Gators do become bowl eligible, they won’t be coached by Muschamp.
