Florida Gators freshman backup quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended indefinitely after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female student on campus early Sunday morning.

The school announced Monday that the University of Florida Police Department and the Gainesville Police Department are working together to assist with the collection and analysis of forensic evidence.

Police said the incident allegedly took place in a residence hall on campus.

“We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus,” Florida president Bernie Machen said in a statement. “The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment.”

Harris relieved struggling starter Jeff Driskel near the end of the third quarter of Saturday’s game at Tennessee and rallied the Gators to a 10-9 victory against the Volunteers.

Florida coach Will Muschamp postponed his news conference Monday. Muschamp said after the victory over the Vols that the coaching staff would weigh its options before making a decision on the Gators’ starter against LSU on Saturday.

Huntley Johnson told the Orlando Sentinel he is representing Harris and they are cooperating with the investigation. Johnson said Harris has not been arrested and he does not expect him to be detained.
