Quarterback Everett Golson will transfer from Notre Dame for his senior season, according to ESPN.

Golson, who graduates in May with a degree in management-entrepreneurship, was in a competition with Malik Zaire for the starting job. Golson was benched during a blowout loss to Southern Cal last year, and was believed to be considering a transfer in January after Zaire started the Fighting Irish’s bowl game, with the Times-Picayune reporting that Golson had reached out to LSU a week after the Irish beat the Tigers.

However, coach Brian Kelly said Golson had “bought in 100 percent” at Notre Dame at the beginning of spring practices and that the quarterback competition would continue into August.

“I think it’s a healthy, competitive situation,” Kelly said in late April, with the quarterbacks splitting reps working with the first team offense.

Golson is eligible to play immediately for another school upon completing his degree.
