Quarterback Everett Golson, who has announced that he will spent his final college season at a school other than Notre Dame, is expected to announce his choice of college on Monday, the Palm Beach Post reported Friday.

The leading candidate for Golson’s services appears to be Florida State.

He visited with Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher on Monday and seemed impressed with Florida State. Fisher is looking for a replacement for Jameis Winston, the No. 1 overall pick in the recent NFL Draft who led the Seminoles to the national championship in 2013 and a berth in the four-team national playoff in 2014.

Golson is scheduled to graduate from Notre Dame on Sunday, and he would be eligible to play his final season of college football immediately at another school.

Golson has said he wanted to play closer to his hometown of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and he also also visited Florida and Georgia, according to reports.

Redshirt junior Sean Maguire emerged from spring practice as the leading candidate to replace Winston as the Seminoles’ quarterback. But presumably Golson would be given every opportunity to win the starting job in his only season at Florida State.

Golson was Notre Dame’s quarterback in its loss to Alabama in the 2012 national championship game. However, he missed the 2013 season while serving a school suspension for an academic violation. He returned to Notre Dame for the 2014 season.
