The ACC announced Monday that its 15 schools signed a Grant of Rights agreement through 2027.
The agreement will likely prevent conference realignment as it decreases the chances of a school leaving for another conference. Further, the schools surrender control of TV broadcast rights to the conference.
“This announcement further highlights the continued solidarity and commitment by our member institutions,” ACC commissioner John Swofford said in a statement announcing the agreement. “The Council of Presidents has shown tremendous leadership in insuring the ACC is extremely well positioned with unlimited potential.”
The ACC currently has a $50 million exit fee in place for schools that wish to leave the conference. Florida State voted against the exit fee and Maryland is fighting it.
CBS Sports reported that the ACC is in discussions with ESPN about establishing its own network, similar to Big Ten, Pac-12 and the soon-to-be-announced SEC models.
The Big 12 previously agreed to a Grant of Rights.
